The Students made an awesome start to the 2011 Four Nations Maths Challenge today.

  • 3 classes in the top 50

STEM Networking / Teachmeet

I was delighted to attend the first STEM specific Teachmeet in Norwich yesterday.

Teachmeets are a great way to share best practice and get out of hours CPD with likeminded teachers.

It was an excellent programme with something for everyone including:

As if that wasn’t enough we also got hands on with some homemade STOMP rockets!

I’ve grabbed some good resources for the Science department too.  We are in the process of developing our role into a regional hub and so it was great to meet many of the people involved in a variety of activities locally.

Blast in PL/form time

You know a little bit of mental Maths first thing is going to be awesome for the kids and getting them ready for the day.

Blast works like this:

  • Get all the student standing up
  • Fire out some mental Maths questions e.g. 5×7
  • The first hand up gets to answer
  • If the student gets the answer right they get to blast someone else out of the game
  • If it’s wrong they blast themselves out
  • The last student standing wins

Try it out and let me know what you think!
